The ideology behind being 'Chunky Brother' was inspired in Cornwall, UK in 2005, after the kind words of my lovely wife, post surf. She might have spoken the words she was quietly thinking, but they came out loud... "You actually look like an egg cup in a wetsuit" she said laughing!!(Pictured here, and note skinny legs, and the belly suppressed firmly with 5mm rubber; front view always better!) The 'Chunky Brother' is everywhere, and that's not meant in a derogatory way, 'My brothers walk amongst me, beside me and surround us all'. My Doctor once called my mid torso, 'Central Obesity' (nearly a T-shirt slogan right there), cheeky fucker!!
Anyway, this Chunky Brother is about to go on a new journey on this blog and have some fun, hopefully inspiring others from different mothers.
Interested, or need some inspiration, maybe become healthier, learn to surf or skate, or already do, ride or race bikes, go to the gym, play rugby, snowboard or ski, swim or run, maybe nothing right now, whatever, This is truly about getting out there, feeling proud, keeping active and achieving what I would like to achieve as I enter the 50+ years (I'm 49 but that big number is fast approaching.
My words in this blog, aim to be a whole bunch of things; fun, slightly opinionated sometimes, but self deprecating, educational (if that's possible and I use that word very lightly), unusual, but mostly about building a community, with the potential to provide so much more. I'll be blogging about exciting events, and maybe the odd reviews, videos and inspirational stories from a wide variety of sources and generally the kind of stuff that makes me tick.
Lets take Surfboards and surfing; As a Chunky Brother, I have accepted myself for who I am, how old I am, and my ability in the surf. The surfboards I buy have taken many, many years of trial and error, but if I can help those new to the sport to make an easier decision, or looking to come down from a longboard, or up from a shortboard, how much volume do you need? Then I can help, and If this makes no sense, then this is why the reviews are important. We'll add some amazing links with some amazing people across the world and we'd love people to contribute to this.
I also do a lot of multi discipline cycling which MTB, Trails, and Road and soon to be gravel riding that I'll be posting in a couple of weeks. So following me to a variety of venues to watch an old boy ride, meet friends old and new, and capture the essence of life outdoors. I'll be setting myself some challenges, hitting up some events and as I approach 50 years old, compete as a veteran in some Surfing and MTB events in 2019, this year is out of the question!!
As a Chunky Brother. what training or nutritional advice can I get if I decide to go down that route? My previous regime of five jam doughnuts pre-BMX race, or pasty and Tea before Surfing might have to change. So I'll be meeting people within the health, food and nutrition industry, taking on some training advice and choosing some great projects to get involved with. I have some fantastic links and I'll be putting up interviews, reviews and hopefully your views.
Ideally I would like to hear from you in the comments, please get involved, but mostly, I would like you to be part of this community, share your thoughts and let us know when you go out and enjoy!
Welcome to my new blog and enjoy my journey on wheels and waves, starting here in Cornwall.
